A women - centric bee keeping initiative

Women play a significant role in the mountainous region of Uttarakhand through holistic contribution in agricultural practices for sustaining livelihoods. They are also at the heart of the honey bee ecosystem - equipped with the know-how and skills that are essential for the collection and extraction of honey. Through meaningful partnerships with local women-centric organizations, HariBol is contributing towards a sustainable honey-based micro-economy, which is decentralized, scien-tific, ethical and economically viable.

The Central Himalayan Region

The Central Himalayan Region Located at 11,000 ft above sea-level, the central Himalayan region has diverse flora, which is considered one of the richest for bees. It includes temperate zone fruits, vegetable crops, agricultural crops, grasses, bushes, shrubs, forests and avenue trees. Apiculture has been practiced across Himalayan communities for multiple centuries. Their knowledge of honey bee ecology together with Haribol’s go-to market infrastructure, ensures that the natural biodiversity found in this region contributes sufficiently to the income generation of these communities.
